Group seeks Kayveas's help

Mar 20:

THE office of the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk M. Kayveas confirmed that Elvis Chong Kok Liong and his group of colleagues had sought his help.

A letter from Chong dated November 10 last year was received by the office, pleading with the Deputy Minister to look into the matter.

"We are aware of the group's plight and have been conducting our own research and investigation," said an assistant to Kayveas.

He declined to elaborate but promised that the Deputy Minister's office will look into the matter seriously.

Chong and the group had written to Kayveas after they claimed that their pleas for help from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry fell on deaf ears.

The group is seeking to collect an estimated RM8.23 million from multi-level marketing company, Melilea (M) Sdn Bhd, which sells organic health products.

Chong claimed that the sum was due to him and his friends after they have helped the Malacca-based company expand its business nationwide with more than 150,000 members as their downliners (agents).http://www.mmail.com.my/Current_ ... /Article/index_html

Ex-distributors fall on hard times

Mar 20:

Stella Yoon figured she had nothing to lose when she registered as an independent distributor of the multi-level marketing company, Melilea (M) Sdn Bhd, in 2001.

At 29 years old and unemployed, the single woman who was living in Johor Baru had given her all when she was recruited into the Malacca-based company selling organic health products.

"I worked very hard, day and night, rain or shine as I was seeing how it would all pay off in terms of the commission and bonuses that I was receiving," she said. Within a few months and without any means of transportation to conduct her business, claimed the motivated Yoon, she had managed to make four-figure sales while also recruiting more than 8,000 members for Melilea. "Accordingly, I was getting a five-figure monthly income which pushed me to work even harder," recalled Yoon who moved to Malacca shortly after joining Melilea to increase her business potential.

With a changed lifestyle and luxury car to boot, Yoon thought life was looking very bright for her. That is until her nightmare began in December 2003 when her bonus was suddenly suspended without reason. Attempts to find out why failed as the Melilea management refused to talk to her. Not only that, her membership was subsequently terminated for alleged breach of company rules and regulations.

Since then, Yoon has been unemployed. She has sold her car and other assets in order to survive.

Her hardship has also caused her to suffer a hormonal imbalance which has been medically certified.

Yoon's colleague, 22-year-old Peter Ong from Penang, suffered the same fate, if not worse.

The highly inspired Ong, who was recruited into Melilea by his Johor Baru-based brother, took only four months of hard work to reach the Crown Star Director (CSD) level with its five-figure monthly income.

"From going around on a motorcycle, I was soon driving my own Mercedes. Life was good and I had thought such multi-level marketing schemes are ideal for people like me," he said.

He had even opened an office in Bayan Baru, which was like a northern branch for Melilea, stocking their health products.

However, in January last year, his membership was terminated. Within 24 hours, his stocks were "confiscated" by Melilea employees and his office was closed down.

"I was promised the deposit I paid for the stocks they took together with my bonus amounting to RM171,000 but I have not received a sen yet," he said.

Like Yoon, Ong too has had to sell off his assets and cut down expenses in order to survive.

Both Yoon and Ong said the hopes and dreams of at least 20 other people who were recruited at around the same time as they were, had been dashed the same way by Melilea.

They claimed that Melilea is acting unethically as the company wants to gain all the profits without giving due commission to distributors like them.http://www.mmail.com.my/Current_ ... /Article/index_html

Agents alleged to have breached regulations

Mar 20:

The Malacca-based Melilea (M) Sdn Bhd has claimed that the services of Elvis Chong, Stella Yoon, Peter Ong and their friends were terminated because they breached company regulations.

Its vice-president Stella Chin, when contacted, said the complainants were found to have also distributed products of other companies while engaged to Melilea.

"We first received complaints from our other distributors who claimed that Elvis and his friends were misleading them into selling products from other companies. "This is sabotage on their part. We had no choice but to terminate their services to safeguard our company and the people working for us." She said when confronted during a company gathering in January this year, Chong has admitted her allegations.

Melilea, she said, has taken legal action against Chong and 11 others, including Yoon and Ong.

They filed a suit against the complainants at the Malacca High Court on July 16 last year.

Chin, however, declined to explain why Melilea is withholding the bonuses due to the group. http://www.mmail.com.my/Current_ ... /Article/index_html
